Tech giants continue to capitalise on the COVID pandemic

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, recorded a 34% uptick in revenues year-on-year with profits doubling to around $18bn in 21Q1 – the third record quarter in a row. This growth was predominantly driven by its advertising business bringing in $45bn between January and March. Additionally, despite making a loss for Alphabet, Google Cloud reported a major uptick in revenue; increasing from $3.83bn in 20Q4 to $4.02bn in 21Q1.
